Hear the Week's Best New Canadian Music: Daniel Romano's Outfit, KALLITECHNIS, PACKS, EKKSTACY

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Jan 12, 2024

We're nearly halfway into January now — and that's quite an accomplishment, especially considering that December is like if the Sunday Scaries were an entire month. Ever generous in their pursuit to boost our dwindling serotonin resources, Canadian artists are warming back up to take 2024 by storm.

Subzero temperatures be damned, Daniel Romano's Outfit are Too Hot to Sleep! The forthcoming album's first single, "Field of Ruins," is a relentless burst of energy that's the sonic equivalent of a SAD lamp.

KALLITECHNIS also returns to set the vibe dials to nothing less than immaculate. Meanwhile, PACKS and EKKSTACY bring excitement for their respective new records (both due next week) to a fever pitch with their latest offerings, "Missy" and "chicago."

Things are still pretty slow on the album-release front at this time of year, but Vancouver fixtures Fake Shark are kicking off 2024 by basking in the Afterglow. Toronto's Theo Vandenhoff also has a new EP.

Elsewhere, Old Man Luedecke is back with his first new music since 2019, and Alan Doyle is rolling out the welcome mat. BIG|BRAVE and Dana Gavanski have announced brand-new albums, while Echoes Of... and iskwē continue to preview theirs — both having landed on Exclaim!'s Most Anticipated Canadian Albums list — with new singles.

Get all the vitamins and minerals you can (but you should probably also take a supplement; I'm not a doctor) with The Eh! List below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
