So much for Heaven: Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser is in the news after being mistakenly mailed the ashes of a deceased person he's never met.
On Twitter last week (February 2), the Walkmen — who are due to reunite this April for their first performances since 2013 — shared a screenshot of an ABC7 New York report centred around the wholly bizarre mailbox finding of "our singer, Hamilton Leithauser."
Per ABC7's report, Leithauser checked the mail at his Brooklyn residence to find a U.S. Postal Service box he says was only addressed to "current resident."
"I open it up and it said the cremated remains of this guy from October 17, 2017," Leithauser told the station. Without any idea who the deceased was, he then contacted the funeral home to alert them to the fact they were A Hundred Miles Off with this particular mail-out.
However, "When I called, they were extremely rude," Leithauser recalled to ABC7. "I think he said, 'Don't you examine your packages before you open them?' and I said, 'Don't you check the address before you mail someone's dead body?' I think that's the last thing I said and then he hung up on me."
The station reports that the funeral home eventually sent someone to reclaim the ashes from Leithauser. The singer shared, "She was so angry, from the moment I saw her she was like, 'This is a dead body we're talking about,' and I was like 'Yeah, you mailed it to me.'"
Leithauser's most recent solo album is 2020's The Loves of Your Life, and we hope the ashes that ended up in his mailbox are rightfully returned to the loves of the deceased.
