Halifax's OBEY Convention Rebrands as EVERYSEEKER Following Cease-and-Desist
After receiving a cease-and-desist from clothing brand and street-art company OBEY Giant last winter, the festival formerly known as OBEY Convention has rebranded under the name EVERYSEEKER.

In February 2019, the clothing brand asked that the festival stop using the word "OBEY" as part of its public identity. The festival has since rebranded with a name inspired by a poem that festival founder Darcy Spidle's partner Sheryl Haws read.

In a press release, festival organizers note their excitement moving forward under the new name:

The process of having to reimagine our identity has given us an opportunity to reflect on our past, filled to the brim with exciting, heady, inspiring, mysterious, and challenging moments. We've been dreaming big and planning carefully; taking stock of our successes, our shortcomings and — most crucially — how we can move forward with greater clarity, care and impact.

Back in May last year, after receiving the notice from OBEY, the festival announced that it would work "through the summer months to develop a new name and strengthen our identity," promising that "the organization and its values will most certainly live on, and we're excited to reemerge next fall with a fresh perspective."

The event — which is now in its 12th year — touts itself as "a curatorial platform that [seeks] constant, punk-infected reinvention" and promises "a carefully curated, genre-fluid exploration of radical sounds and new ideas."

So far, the festival's 2020 lineup has yet to be announced, but it is scheduled to take place June 18 to 21 in Halifax.

In related news, festival organizers soon plan to announce a winter series of EVERYSEEKER performances and workshops from artists like Angel Bat David, Chippy Nonstop, Moor Mother, Ka Baird, New Hermitage, NAT Chantel, Delvina Bernard, Fragment, BLKRWK, Tangent, Maximata, DJ Regalia, DJ Fancy Pants and DJ HIIGH KEE.

Stay tuned for more details as they unfold.

Last year's OBEY Convention lineup included performances from Kelly Moran, JustJohn & Dom Dias, 75 Dollar Bill, Guttersnipe, Laura Ortman, Cucina Povera, Strange Froots, DJ Haram, Eartheater, Tomoko Sauvage, Justice Yeldham, Mich Cota and more.
