Half Film

The Road to the Crater

BY James KeastPublished Oct 1, 1999

Half Film is another slow-poke band with all day to wander in various spooky directions with a pace that would put many music fans to easy sleep. Their dusty sparseness recalls any number of similarly unhurried bands more interested in creating an atmosphere than jamming out. The Road to the Crater is a beautiful album packed with such moments, but what it lacks is a bit of variety in tone or feel. Their subtle shades of eggshell are sometimes lost against the background of a polar bear in a snowstorm.
