Love her or not, Grimes undeniably changed the game with her era-defining third record Visions — her 4AD debut originally released in 2012. Well before she was known for doing weird shit in the media and attaching herself to real-life villains, the artist was holed up in Montreal, refusing food and sleep for nine days while using amphetamines to record her oeuvre, as the story goes.
That 13-track record, in all its tortuous glory, will celebrate its 10th anniversary on February 21 — time flies, eh? To mark the occasion, the artist born Claire Boucher will reissue Visions on vinyl on January 20 through Vinyl Me, Please (VMP) as part of its February Essentials Record of the Month collection.
Pressed on 180-gram magenta and green "galaxy" vinyl, the reissue comes with an exclusive art print and liner notes illustrated and written by Boucher herself.
Reflecting on album opener "Infinite Love Without Fulfillment," Grimes said: "Wow, I can hear myself learning how to make music in this song. I remember doing the vocal over the drums and then randomly trying that baseline and being like whoa! And kinda spiralling into this experiment."
"This is the first album that had a lot of intention behind it," she told Exclaim! ahead of the album's release back in 2012. "And it was the first album where I was able to think of something I wanted to do and then be able to do it. Whereas the other albums were more accidental. I would screw around and just keep the first vocal take on the record."
