Earlier this week, GoldLink ruffled the feathers of listeners and contemporaries alike after suggesting Mac Miller's album The Divine Feminine was "an actual blueprint" of his own mixtape And After That, We Didn't Talk. Now, the rapper has addressed criticism of his Instagram post.
During a recent live performance in Europe, GoldLink told a crowd that Mac Miller was his "best friend," praising the late MC for being one of the first people in the industry to give him a chance. "Without Mac Miller, there would be no GoldLink," he said.
"I'mma be a sacrifice for everybody in this fuckin' shit right now," GoldLink continued. "You say whatever the fuck you want... you say it however the fuck you want it. You don't have to explain yourself to no-motherfuckin'-body... we ain't worried about n****s that we don't know."
GoldLink's post saw him write that he and Miller "weren't always on the best terms" ahead of recalling how he had played And After That, We Didn't Talk while supporting Miller on his GO:OD AM tour.
He then wrote, "I always thought you drove yourself insane about your own music. So much that, you would adopt styles as homage to those around you that you loved. That's where our problem started. Divine Feminine was an actual blueprint of And After That, We Didn't Talk."
GoldLink and Miller's mutual collaborator Anderson .Paak called the former's post "disrespectful, narcissistic, jealous grossly unnecessary" in a now-deleted missive of his own.
Miller passed away in September 2018 at age 26.
