Like the rest of the Odd Future crew, Frank Ocean got his start by playing it DIY, so it's almost unsurprising to learn that the smooth and sensual R&B crooner turned down the chance to work with one of the biggest players in the game, Kanye West.
An interview BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe [via NME] found Ocean admitting that while he did guest on "No Church in the Wild" from West and Jay-Z's epic Watch the Throne -- a collab he admitted made him "sweat" -- dude denied Ye the opportunity to return the favour on his upcoming new LP.
"I said, 'As much as I want to work with you [Kanye]... I kind of want to do this without you. I kind of want this to be done without you. I kind of want to do it on my own,'" Ocean admitted.
While Ocean didn't deliver many details on the forthcoming as-yet-untitled LP, he did admit that the follow-up to Nostalgia, Ultra is nearly complete.
"The record is written, we're just trying to tie up all the production," he said. "Get everything sonically pleasing to me."
