Frank Ocean rode a wave of acclaim for the better part of 2012 over his much-applauded major label debut Channel Orange, but the R&B singer's year went out on a sour note when he was busted for marijuana possession.

TMZ reports that the singer was pulled over on New Year's Eve in Mono County, CA, after being clocked going 90 mph in a 65 mph zone. When police approached Ocean's BMW, they noticed an odour of marijuana and searched the singer. The cops reportedly found a bag of pot on his person.

Ocean was cited for marijuana possession, driving on a suspended licence and having tinted windows, but was released at the scene. Since the incident had officials seizing Ocean's driver's licence, he may be thinkin' bout how he's going to get around town for the next little while — another passenger in the vehicle had to drive the car home.

UPDATE: On Twitter, Ocean offered up this reaction to the bust and the media onslaught that followed: "hi guys, i smoke pot. ok guys, bye... hi guys, i drive a m3. that bitch fast..ok guys, bye. :)"
