After great performances by Thus Owls and Caravane, Montreal-based FOXTROTT took to the stage, replacing pop songstress Sky Ferreira after a last-minute cancellation. Normally a one-woman project, FOXTROTT was accompanied by a wonderful french horn player who, when paired with the heavy beats and airy vocals of FOXTROTT herself, managed to woo the apprehensive crowd over the course of their set.
While all the songs were well received, it was the track "Colours," from the recently released EP Shields, that made those at MRCY casually bob their heads in the afternoon sun. While both women seemed slightly nervous, hiding behind sunglasses, and not really looking into the crowd aside from moments in between songs to say hello, they managed to put on a great performance that demonstrated just how powerful a small, last-minute setup could be.
