The UK is famously a very small place and naturally, English singer-songwriters FKA twigs and Jorja Smith are, in fact, cousins.
In a new interview with GQ, twigs revealed the novel familial connection between the two artists.
"I'd never met [Smith] before, and I jumped in her car with her," she recalled, "and I remember thinking to myself, 'Gosh, that's really strange. We've got exactly the same kind of skin."
The musician said she didn't think too much of the similar yellow undertones in their skin colours, aside from considering exchanging notes on foundation shades. The pair collaborated in the studio together and went on to continue hanging out together afterwards, eventually becoming friends.
twigs added: "A few months later, I was on the road to go to L.A. and she left me a voice note saying, 'You're never going to believe this, but I've just spoken to my dad and he's spoken to his sister and we're related.'"
It's a family affair on her latest mixtape CAPRISONGS — recently named one of Exclaim!'s 29 Best Albums of 2022 So Far — then, with the R&B singer featured on "darjeeling" alongside rapper Unknown T. Smith's most recent offering remains 2021 EP Be Right Back.
