Nobody really knows why most things happen. They just simply do. We can try to make our own meaning out of these events, but ultimately, we can't explain them.
In so many ways, this is one of those occurrences: German-American supermodel Heidi Klum has released a rendition of Corey Hart's inimitable '80s synthpop banger "Sunglasses at Night," produced by Dutch EDM hitmaker Tiësto — who has now become the Super Bowl's first-ever in-game DJ for next month's championship in Las Vegas. Sure, football could use some livening up now and then, but are bass drops really the way?
Klum has been pals with Tiësto and his wife for a while, and the supermodel's rendition of "Sunglasses at Night" will be used as the theme song for the upcoming season of Germany's Next Topmodel. It's not Klum's first time dabbling in music, either — nor her second; she made her debut in 1997 with a song called "Wonderland," which soundtracked a Christmas commercial for the German retailer Douglas. A full decade later in 2007, Klum did a duet with her then-husband Seal on his System album.
Of course, this information probably doesn't change much in informing how you'd imagine Klum singing an EDM version of "Sunglasses at Night" would sound. And you'd be exactly right.
Beginning with a spoken, "Okay everyone, get your sunglasses out," and a sly half-laugh, her super-smoothed voice makes her way through the track with her accent in tact. Except the chorus is removed entirely in favour of more untz-untz beats for fist pumping, and apparently Kylie Minogue loves it.
