Canada's Stranger Things MVP Finn Wolfhard has just revealed his next project — a full-length feature adaptation of his Rules for Werewolves.

The film is being directed by Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux and is based on the debut novel by Kirk Lynn. Making for a bit of an unconventional rollout, Rules for Werewolves is actually first arriving as a short, also starring Wolfhard, at SXSW next month. But as Deadline reports, the project is now being blown into a full-length feature film with Wolfhard even before the short has premiered.

According to the synopsis, here's what we can expect from the project:

Rules for Werewolves is a dual narrative investigating a youthful wolfpack of post-recession house squatters.

Tanya, a new recruit, guides us through a pack B & E / household takeover; a whirling mass of youth looting their diverse wants and needs into colour-coded backpacks.

Throughout, we hear Bobert. He's narrating a story from his troubled time before finding (or possibly founding) the werewolves that subtly mirrors and adds context to Tanya's path. His story swirls around the pack, illuminating connections between art and artist, hope, community and loneliness. By the time the cops show up, the kids have disappeared, but the pack have left someone (or something) behind.

The feature-length project is set to start filming in late 2020 or early 2021.

"This short film represents the fourth time I've worked with Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux," Wolfhard told Deadline. "He's one of Canada's most imaginative directors, and I look forward to collaborating with him again as we take Kirk Lynn's provocative text and expand this short into a very strong feature reflecting teenage lives in the wild and anxious era."

Schaulin-Rioux added: "Rules for Werewolves is the kind of movie I'm desperate to see and dying to make, especially with the dream team of Kirk, Finn, our producing team, Boldly and co-star Kelcey Mawema. Premiering the short at SXSW is a very exciting way to share a glimpse of this amazing new world."

So far, the full-length feature version of Rules for Werewolves doesn't have a firm premiere date, but the short will debut at SXSW on March 13. You can watch a teaser here over on Deadline, as well as learn more about the short at SXSW's website.

Rules for Werewolves adds to an increasingly busy schedule for Wolfhard. In addition to his Stranger Things gig, he was just in The Turning, as well as will star in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which is due in theatres on July 10. He also has his new band the Aubreys.
