The Fiery Furnaces' Eleanor Friedberger Signs to Merge for Solo Album

BY Josiah HughesPublished Apr 21, 2011

Progressive New York art pop duo the Fiery Furnaces have no shortage of work ethic. A previous update from the band in late 2010 revealed that they had a total of ten albums currently down the pipeline. Among them was the solo debut of vocalist Eleanor Friedberger. We've now learned that the album will be out this summer on Merge Records.

According to an update on the Merge site, the album is called Last Summer. The title is quite literal, as the album was recorded last summer in New York. Friedberger was apparently inspired to create her album after recording solo versions of Fiery Furnaces tracks for the Take Me Round Again project.

Merge will release Last Summer on July 12. Lead single "My Mistakes" can be downloaded here. Friedberger will also take the project on the road, with tour dates expected shortly.
