A two-piece experimental jazz act, Toronto's Feuermusik play with saxophone and bass clarinet, and a drum kit made up of buckets and cans. Consisting of Jeremy Strachan and Gus Weinkauf of post-punk outfit Rockets Red Glare, the two played a set of winding improvisations, Weinkauf's rough rhythms on the bucket drums punctuated by Strachan's quavers and squawks. Loose and sometimes atonal, Strachan and Weinkauf were perfectly balanced as they played off each other, as Strachan punched out jazz riffs to Weinkauf's almost primal drums, sounding like a kid beating on pots and pans or garbage cans rattling in the streets, with sustained tones on the woodwinds morphing at times into drones. Feuermusik provided a refreshing foray into another genre in the midst of the Pop Explosion.
