Dreamy California duo Fawns of Love have teamed up with an indie pop luminary on their new single: "Ambrose Pierce" is a duet with Calvin Johnson of Beat Happening. It's out now through Kingfisher Bluez.

"Ambrose Pierce" was inspired by writer (and American Civil War vet) Ambrose Bierce, who disappeared when travelling to Mexico to witness the country's revolution. His final written words were, "As for me, I leave here tomorrow for an unknown destination" — and that sentiment inspired the moody synthpop number, which contrasts Jenny Andreotti's airy voice with Johnson's booming baritone.

Andreotti said in a statement, "Since the start of Fawns of Love, I've wanted to do a duet. I had seen a lot of live footage on YouTube of Calvin singing without a microphone and admired how his booming voice sounded playing off the natural reverb of a room. I got stuck on the idea that our voices would sound complementary together, eventually worked up the courage, threw caution to the wind, and asked him if he'd like to collaborate!"

Hear the results of that collaboration below. Fawns of Love's album Fear the Softest Gaze is out on October 27.
