When Exodus takes the stage, metal takes hold. Vocalist Zetro Souza demanded that those who fall down while in the pit were taken care of, although it was unclear whether that meant pick them up or put them down, as the phrase is often used as a euphemism for killing. As guitarist Gary Holt said in Get Thrashed: "Everyone had a good time, even if they were bleeding. And I had a good time if they were bleeding."
Therein lies the essence of Exodus: the special place where barbarity and having a good time cross paths. Focusing on their first three albums — including Bonded By Blood, which will celebrate its 30th birthday next year — the band taught "A Lesson In Violence," whipped the crowd into a "Toxic Waltz" and attacked with the "Strike of the Beast," the latter two featuring guest vocal spots by members of Death Angel. Maybe Exodus didn't make the "Big 4" because they are in a class entirely of their own as the greatest thrash metal band of all time.
