Entombed

Serpent Saints

Finally, a new full-length from the kings of Swedish death metal turned death’n’roll, Entombed. With less roll than death this time around, the band still can’t hide the punk meets Motörhead vibe they’ve been indulging in for the past handful of albums. The title track kicks things off with a memorable chorus and a great mix of slower, creepy-sounding death metal, not unlike a combination of something off Left Hand Path and the simplistic, catchy and raw approach of their later albums. And the whole album straddles this line, offering up a thicker production sound than their past few efforts but keeping the almost sloppy, high-energy, "don’t give a fuck” attitude the band wisely adopted and utilised to totally set themselves apart from their peers. Their best album since 2000’s Uprising, this one could please both death heads and those who enjoyed the band’s death’n’roll approach.
