Ed Sheeran is reportedly the distant nephew of Frank Sheeran, the character depicted by Robert De Niro in Martin Scorcese's new film The Irishman.
According to Stephen Graham, who plays Anthony Provenzano in the film, Ed (the British singer Sheeran) revealed that he is related to Frank (the infamous mob hitman Sheeran).
The tidbit arose during a conversation Graham had with Ed a few months ago.
"They're related, you know. Honest to God — I swear on my nana's life," Graham told the Sun newspaper. "That's what Ed said, he says it's his distant uncle."
Both Sheerans come from Irish Catholic roots, but there's been no confirmation of genealogy linking the two.
Ed has yet to officially comment on the family matter. Frank died in 2003 at the age of 83.
Nevertheless, you can dig into his potential family history when The Irishman hits Netflix on November 27.
