Syracuse, NY's Ecliptic Vision take their groove-filled death metal sound to the next level with their new, self-titled album, the followup to 2017's impressive Omphalos of the Void. The band have kicked things up several notches, with strong, focussed composition and impeccable musicianship, while still honouring the crushing brutality and intensity found in their previous material. They've also pushed the boundaries of their sound by collaborating with Matthew Jaime (Machine Moon) who adds some ambient noise to the record.

Following the atmospheric intro "Singularity," Ecliptic Vision's style is immediately identified by the heavy and powerful "Anthropophage." Tracks like "Cosmicosm" and "Cephalic Anomaly" feature mesmerizing technicality and complex structures, while "Crux of Infliction" and "Fear the Horizon" are overwhelmingly aggressive. Eerie noise tracks "Interdimensional Tides," "Reduced to Dust" and "Adrift in the Celestial Void" are interspersed throughout, and offer up a breather, albeit a dismal one.

Throughout the duration of the record, it's tough to choose a favourite element: the astonishing vocal range, the intricate guitar leads, the absolutely pummelling drum blasts or the unnerving, ominous ambience. It's fitting that Ecliptic Vision decided to self-title this release, as it marks their moment of really honing their sound and coming into their own.
