Earth Announce 'Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Dec 6, 2011

Having released Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light I earlier this year, it was just a matter of time before Washington doom drone innovators Earth unleashed the second half of their latest slow-drip opus. It turns out the wait is almost over, as Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II will be released this coming February.

A press release from revered metal imprint Southern Lord confirms that the follow-up arrives February 14, explaining that while the record continues with the "folkloric vein" that drove the first instalment, the back half of the project ups the ante with "even more improvisational and unrestrained energy than its predecessor."

The five compositions that make up Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II were tracked at the same time as part one, down at Avast studios in Seattle by Stuart Hallerman. Currently composed of leader Dylan Carlson, percussionist Adrienne Davies, bassist Karl Blau and cellist Lori Goldston, tracks like "His Teeth Did Brightly Shine" allegedly further the band's interest in British acid folk (à la Fairport Convention), offering a sound that's "more hopeful and less dark and death oriented than previous work."

You can check out the tracklisting below and the cover above.
