While the pandemic may have effectively cancelled trick-or-treating this year, Toronto "nostalgia trip" party performers Dwayne Gretzky have made alternate plans to keep the spooky spirit alive on October 31.
The band — known for their massive lineup and outlandish performances filled with amped-up covers — are taking over Toronto's newest waterfront drive-in venue, INK Entertainment's CityView Drive-In, on Halloween night. The COVID-19-safe event will continue the REBEL-adjacent venue's summer-long concert series with a special themed event.
"In what feels like our first show announcement in a million years, we're excited to let you know that we're getting together again, on a real stage, to play music to a live audience," Dwayne Gretzky said in a statement.
"Wow, that feels good to say," they added. "We want to turn back the clock to when Hallowe'en was the scariest event to happen all year. Expect creepy costumes, sugary treats, and probably 'Monster Mash.' This is an all-ages event, with kids 12 and under free — a great family alternative to trick-or- treating."
The group are fresh off the release of their debut self-titled album, which they've yet to be able to perform for an audience.
CityView had previously played host to sold-out shows from dvsn, as well as performances by Monster Truck, Allan Rayman, A Tribe Called Red and more.
Tickets for the Halloween event go on sale this Friday (October 2) at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.
