Ducks Ltd. make indie pop perfection sound practically effortless, and a couple years after the one-two punch of their Get Bleak EP and Modern Fiction LP, they haven't lost the touch. "The Main Thing" hits harder than your average jangle pop ditty, with machine-gun drum fills and bursts of tremolo-picked guitar.
But even as the song careens along at a blazing 182 bpm (by my count), it's the honey-sweet wistfulness that stands out most, as reverb-drenched harmonies join singer-guitarist Tom McGreevy's aching refrain of "I don't believe in it now."
