Ontario combo Dream Jefferson used to describe their sound as "party-rap," but they've developed over the years and they now call themselves "new wave electro-hip hop group." Their latest genre-mashing endeavour is 32X, and this album can now be heard on Exclaim.ca.
The 14 tracks have a distinct undercurrent of hip-hop, but they aren't rap purists by any means. "Light Therapy" sports vocoded refrains and a synth-driven dance pulse, plus a cameo from PS I Love You guitarist Paul Saulnier (who also guests on the album's "The Filth"). With the help of Kira May, there's a faint flavour of glam boogie to the groove of "Baby, the Stars Shine Bright," while "Château De Versailles" displays chiptune blippiness and "CyberPunkRockRap" sounds like exactly what the title promises.
Hear it all below.
32X arrives today (October 21).
