Drakeo the Ruler has died at the age of 28. The rapper was stabbed last night (December 18) at the Once Upon a Time in LA festival in his hometown of Los Angeles.
Drakeo the Ruler, real name Darrell Caldwell, was scheduled to perform at the festival, which took place at Exposition Park. A fight reportedly broke out backstage around 8:30 p.m., and Drakeo was stabbed. He was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries. A source told the Los Angeles Times that Drakeo was attacked by a group of people.
The festival ended early as a result, and headliners 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg never performed.
Drakeo released a string of mixtapes over the past few years. His acclaimed 2020 mixtape Thank You for Using GTL was recorded over the phone while he was in prison. He collaborated with Drake on The Truth Hurts earlier this year.
Snoop Dogg posted a statement, sharing his condolences and saying that he was in his dressing room at the time of the incident.
