Australian brutal death metal/goregrind band Die Pigeon Pie were the second group to play MDF 2012, and they sure set the bar high for a dynamic, well-executed performance. Musically, the band displayed technical proficiency, with skilled guitar work, heavy bass lines and pounding drums. But it's the vocal stylings of Leo (no last name) that really makes Die Pigeon Die unique, as the sound he makes with his low gurgles basically replicates that of projectile vomiting. It's pretty disgusting stuff, but in the best, most brutal way possible. Although the band's lyrical content is horrific and perverse -- not a word can be understood -- the sentiments come through in their Rompeprop-esque music. Die Pigeon Die's set consisted mostly of songs from their 2007 debut full-length, Ripped from V to A, with its short tracks featuring titles way too grotesque and offensive to name. But it's all in good fun, which is exactly the impression one is left with after watching their stellar performance.
