Diddy Was Joking About Paying Sting $5,000 a Day — but Not About Loving Him
Every breath Diddy takes, he'll be paying Sting.

The rapper famously sampled the Police's "Every Breath You Take" in "I'll Be Missing You," his 1997 hit single with Faith Evans featuring 112. Now, Diddy has confirmed that he pays Police leader Sting $5,000 a day after not getting permission to use the sample.

UPDATE (4/7, 1:26 p.m. ET): Jokes on us. Diddy confirmed in a tweet that he was just kidding about the $5,000 per day. He wasn't kidding about being buds with Sting, though:

Sting spoke about the royalties back in 2018, when he appeared on New York radio show The Breakfast Club and confirmed rumours that Diddy paid him $2,000 per day. Today, Diddy quote-tweeted a clip from that interview, clarifying that it's actually $5,000 per day.

Evidently he's not mad, however. He wrote, "Love to my brother @OfficialSting," adding a sunglasses smiley emoji along with heart hands.

Sting seems to agree. In that original Breakfast Club clip, he said, "We're very good friends now."
