The Destro

As the Coil Unwinds

With their first proper full-length release, the Destro break through from deep in the heart of Texas with a down and dirty dose of aggression. Fusing influences from Napalm Death to Pantera has resulted in one of the most straight-up kick-ass releases from any band this year. Believing that hard work pays off and a commitment to the gospel of keeping metal true and image-free score this band extra points as well. With a sound that is probably best compared to Lamb of God’s New American Gospel, the Destro are sure to catch the ears of death/grind elitists and metalcore breakdown buffs alike. It will be interesting to see if this young band can build upon an already impressive foundation in the future, should this record get the attention it deserves. Lamb of God had that option with their breakthrough and couldn’t expand their writing lexicon. Hopefully the Destro will not fall into the same funk. For the time being, it’s still nice to see guys like the Destro and Indiana’s Year of Desolation (another young band with a similar high-quality sound) flying the flag for true metal high above the critics who flaunt its demise.
