Though it's been a while since we heard any new music out of Dirty Projectors, frontman Dave Longstreth has just delivered a new piece of classical music for New York's Ensemble LPR. The four-movement composition is called Michael Jordan, and you can dunk it in your ears right now.
Arranged for a double string quartet, the piece starts off with a nicely stilted collection of pizzicato plucks, a percussive slap and intricate chamber music melodies. While other sections run less jaunty, a swell of violins and cellos is still present.
The multiple-part harmonies often come across like the kind of complex vocal arrangements you'd expect on a Dirty Projectors LP.
