Everyone's favourite Foo has one last bit of commentary before the year's end: Dave Grohl has confirmed that the Fighters' upcoming feature film, Studio 666, is a "movie movie" — as opposed to a non-movie movie.
Speaking with Mojo [via Ultimate Classic Rock], the frontman offered some clues about the plot of BJ McDonnell's forthcoming horror-comedy flick, which was inspired by the haunted house that acted as a recording studio for the band's most recent album, Medicine at Midnight.
"The singer went nuts and murdered his whole band over creative differences," Grohl said of the film. "There's no other band stupid enough to do this. It's absolutely insane. … A couple of scenes, they're so fucking epic, dude. Just when you think we couldn't come up with anything more ridiculous. … It really, really will blow your mind."
Grohl went on to explain that COVID restrictions delayed production on the film, but in the end, the crew were able to pull it all together within the span of three weeks. Ultimately, they produced a trailer that seemed to enliven everyone's pandemic-weary spirits.
"We watched that trailer and we were like, 'Holy fucking shit!' I mean, honestly, talk about far beyond anyone's expectations," he said. "It's a movie movie. We all were just like, 'Oh my God, let's finish this!'"
Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee all play themselves, while Whitney Cummings, Leslie Grossman, Will Forte, Jenna Ortega and Jeff Garlin will also appear.
The film is due to arrive on February 25. Revisit the Studio 666 teaser below.
