Governors Ball has joined Lollapalooza in dropping DaBaby from its lineup following the rapper's homophobic remarks at Rolling Loud and his subsequent non-apology.
Organizers announced the decision to remove DaBaby from the festival's September lineup via Instagram, and issued the following statement:
Founders Entertainment does not and will not tolerate hate or discrimination of any kind. We welcome and celebrate the diverse communities that make New York City the greatest city in the world. Thank you to the fans who continue to speak up for what is right. Along with you, we will continue to use our platform for good.
UPDATE (8/2, 12:38 p.m. ET): Day N Vegas has also dropped DaBaby from its lineup. Roddy Ricch will replace the rapper's Friday slot.
DaBaby first came under fire for comments he made during his July performance at Rolling Loud in Miami. "If you didn't show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that'll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up," he said. "Fellas, if you ain't sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up!"
The rapper later tweeted that his comments were "insensitive" and wrote "my apologies," before telling the LGBTQ community that "y'all business is y'all business." He wrapped up his non-apology by saying "you can't make me feel less of myself" and promoting his upcoming shows.
Governors Ball's 10th anniversary is scheduled to take place from September 24 to 26 at the Citi Field complex in Queens, NY, and is currently short one performer while organizers find a replacement for the disgraced rapper. DaBaby was scheduled to headline the fest's opening night.
The fest's current lineup includes Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion, Post Malone, A$AP Rocky, J Balvin, Phoebe Bridgers, Big Thief, 21 Savage, Young Thug, Burna Boy, Carly Rae Jepsen, Jamie xx and more.
