Curl Up And Die

We May Be Through With The Past…

BY Chris GramlichPublished May 1, 2003

Part one of Curl Up and Die’s two-EP blitz, with the second (But The Past Isn’t Through With Us) scheduled on Revelation in the coming months, We May Be sees CUAD’s return to earlier home Status and furthers CUAD’s impressive burgeoning legacy. More in step with their excellent Unfortunately We’re Not Robots full-length, and once again recorded masterfully by Kurt Ballou, We May Be builds and furthers CUAD’s impressive mix of metallic hardcore hostility, abrasive noise, hardcore punk rawness and rampaging ruthlessness. However, at six songs and a mere 13 minutes and 13 seconds, it’s criminally short, almost agonisingly so. Tracks such as "I Hate Almost Every Person I Come In Contact With” and "Damn Girl, That Shit Is Deep Like The Ocean” are so good they could easily have made Unfortunately, while track four (titled with many dots and dashes) follows a cycling, plodding and heavy tact, and "I Don’t Give A Shit If I’m In Outer Darkness, I’ll Make Friends” is an industrial metallic remix that may, or may not, be a piss-take, but is still damn good. The other EP can’t be released fast enough.
