On the one hand, English rock troupe the Cribs suffered a blow when ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr split from the group last year, but the band have turned lemons into lemonade, touting their next disc, In the Belly of the Brazen Bull, as a return to the classic trio lineup that produced their first few heralded LPs.
A press release explains that the new album, which Wichita delivers on May 8, whittles the Cribs' roster back down to brothers Gary, Ryan and Ross Jarman for the first time since 2007's Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever.
The 14-song set was captured on both sides of the pond. While the Cribs self-produced a session at London's famed Abbey Road studios, North American recording sessions included a spell at Tarbox Road Studio in upstate New York with Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips) behind the boards, and Steve Albini supervised a stop at EAR studio in Chicago. You can download the fittingly titled, crunchy power pop number "Chi-Town" from the latter over here, or stream it down below.
Though In the Belly of the Brazen Bull won't hit retailers until May, the band will visit our continent for some concert dates a month earlier. The Cribs will make one Canadian stop on the trip at Toronto's Lee's Palace on April 11. You can check out the rest of the schedule down below.
