Tell Her

Montreal has been a hot spot for established and emerging beatmakers lately, from Jacques Greene to Lunice to Kaytranada — and now CRi (Christophe Dubé). Despite delving into electronic soundscapes only four years ago, CRi has already released a handful of EPs and has signed to TOKiMONSTA's label for his latest release, Tell Her.

Inspired by the likes of more introspective producers such as Caribou, Burial and Mount Kimbie, it's easy to hear what CRi is attempting to create on Tell Her — a cinematic narrative built on substance rather than dance floor bangers to toss to a crowd. The six-track EP works with subtlety, with the majority of songs wholly instrumental, save for two guest appearances. The build of the album is unassuming, oftentimes a slow progression culminating in a slight hook and wind down.

While Tell Her takes a few listens to sink in, it reveals its nuances in the process.
