Copperhead won the Calgary Folk Music Festival's songwriting contest in 2014 shortly after forming and the bluesy band have continued to develop their varied and commanding style of song. Lead vocalist Liz Stephens, formerly of Acid Jac, is a powerhouse — her voice soared over her keyboards as her backup singers harmonized along. Bassist Amos Bradley and drummer Kane Bender were perfectly in sync, creating the necessary grooves to accompany Stevens and company's layered vocals.
There is a darkness and theatrical element to the band's music that allows them to capture and hold onto the audience's attention unwaveringly. Melding elements of rock, folk, and soul along with their bluesy base, Copperhead created a sound that was all their own.
