As we near the end of the year, we're looking back at the various festivals we've covered and presented over the past year. The 30th anniversary of the Hillside Festival in Guelph, as always, boasted an impressive lineup this year, and Exclaim! was proud to present select sets.
One of those sets was by jazz/avant-garde saxophonist Colin Stetson, who really needs little introduction thanks to his two Polaris-shortlisted solo albums and work with Arcade Fire, Bon Iver and many more.
We recorded Stetson's performance of "Judges," from 2011's New History Warfare: Volume 2. The sprawling, intense song is truly a marvel to behold, from the varied noises that one instrument can make to the sheer physical effort needed to play it. Check out the performance below, and stay tuned for more Hillside videos to come. Then, be sure to see Colin Stetson this February as part of Toronto's Wavelength Festival.
