A side-project/offshoot of Marble Index's Brad Germain, Spirits offered up a fun set of '80s glam-infused rock, à la the Killers, but without all the affected baggage (feather-encrusted shoulder pads, douchestaches). The trio were backed by a laptop that augmented their guitar and drums with bass and synths. The band transitioned well between songs, with singer/guitarist Ian Smith effortlessly cuing each backing track as they worked through visceral renditions of tracks from their debut. Germain found the perfect balance between '80s pop idol and ironic indie rocker, eliciting a genuine physical reaction from a rather stiff crowd.
