Live from the MTelus's big stage, Chloé's set was a hypnotic trip through a digital garden. It was slow-burning to start, with lots of echoed claps and euphoric flutters, but it got going leisurely, steadily — the whole performance was like a build-up to some grand movie scene, actually. There were enough floaty vocals and sweet xylophonic flourishes laced throughout to keep everyone sated during this jaunt up a hill.
From the rumours around town, it seems as if her DJ set on the outdoor stage the day before was just top notch. With such a busy festival though, it's hard to be everywhere, and a live set at MTelus seemed like the better option out of the two at the time. The clanging clock-tower polyrhythms that bobbed in and out were marvellous, and Chloé even sang into the mic at one point (in French, of course), but these were just interesting side notes in a set that rose a little too slowly. The whole thing was perfectly enjoyable, but it sounds like her DJ set just had that much more oomph to it.
