Chelo

360

BY Ryan B. PatrickPublished Sep 1, 2006

A potent mix of Latin, R&B, hip-hop and pop, Chelo seems destined to join the ranks of the disingenuously media-driven "Latin crossover explosion.” At this point, the merits of the Puerto Rican singer/dancer’s music have been overruled in favour of the all-knowing media machine. The 360 grooves are where it needs to groove, slow jams are where it needs to slow jam and he throws in some Spanish guitar for good measure. "Cha Cha” was a modest hit earlier this year and bilingual tracks like "U Got Me,” "Slow Motion” and "Fantasy” exist to capitalise on that. Chelo already seems destined for Marc Anthony and Enrique Iglesias status.
