After teasing the effort with a trio of singles, Cartel Madras have detailed new EP The Serpent & the Tiger. The 10-song release arrives August 19 through Royal Mountain Records/Sub Pop.
The Serpent & the Tiger marks the third instalment of Cartel Madras' Project Goonda trilogy, which includes 2018's Trapistan and 2019's Age of the Goonda.
The EP boasts features from Backxwash, Airospvce and Shiro Jackson, while production comes from Dom Dias (tracks 1-4), Naphi (track 5), Tyris White (tracks 6-8), and Jide (tracks 9-10). The previously shared "WORKING," "DRIFT" and "Dream Girl Concept" all appear in the tracklist found below.
EP opener "FEAR & LOATHING" arrives alongside today's news, and can be heard alongside a video co-directed by Jashan Makan and Cartel Madras. Shot in Calgary, Toronto and London, UK, over the course of a month, the group's Eboshi and Contra call the visuals their "most ambitious filmmaking experiment yet."
"We were inspired by Season 1 of True Detective, and the films Dark City, Skyfall, and La Femme Nikita," the two explain in a statement. "Taking visual cues from Brian De Palma, and studying the pacing of works by Marisha Pessl, 'FEAR & LOATHING' is a culmination of our influences and love of artful storytelling with striking cinematography."
