Nobody ever talks about how brave it is to get up on stage and be a DJ. It's neither here nor there, but Calvin Harris — famously a DJ — headlined the main stage at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, FL, over the weekend, and has now needed to defend his performance in the Instagram comments section.
Dance music publication Dancing Astronaut posted about Harris's set, with at least two commenters calling it "underwhelming." Others used similar verbiage like "mid" and "boring," while others still claimed it was one of their all-time favourites and that the producer is "the GOAT." As with anything, it was a mixed bag! But Harris saw only red, and decided to stand up for his art yesterday (March 27), writing:
"You expect me to play none of my songs? … how deep is your love — billion streams, this is what u came for — billion streams, my way — billion streams, slide — billion streams, feels — billion streams, one kiss — billion streams, and the other 5 half a bil, and before 2014 another 20, and not cheesy shit, proper fucking songs with real artists," the DJ wrote in a comment of his own, pointing to the colossal commercial success of his catalogue. "And you'd rather I play 'Fein' trap edits today," he added in reference to the 2023 Travis Scott and Playboi Cart collaboration.
"And you wonder why I never play edm festivals," Harris continued, explaining that he spent "months" making new versions of his tracks for the gig. "At least people I saw irl had a great time and I can be happy with that, but fuck at this point whatever I do is gonna piss you off."
Do you slide on all your slights like this?
