The Buzzcocks haven't released a new LP since 2006's Flat-Pack Philosophy. Still, the lack of material hasn't stopping the pop punk pioneers from staying busy. In recent years, they've reissued their early albums and gone on tour, and now they are planning a new best-of collection. entitled A Different Compilation.
However, this is no ordinary greatest-hits package. Rather than bringing together the same old recordings we already know, the band hit the studio and redid 24 classic tunes. This includes charting singles like "I Don't Mind," "Harmony in My Head" and "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)?"
According to a press release, the band rerecorded the tunes with the intention of "bringing a 21st century slant to these already timeless anthems." Leader Pete Shelley explained, "The original records now sound like demos. These new versions, honed by years on the road, showcase the songs as we know they should be, the way we know audiences love to hear them."
It's due out in the UK on June 6 via Cooking Vinyl. There's no word on the North American release, but we can keep our fingers crossed that it will arrive the following day on June 7.
