Brokencyde Meet Fucked Up's Damian Abraham on Exclaim! TV

Love them or, more likely, hate them, there's no denying the cultural impact that Albuquerque, New Mexico's Brokencyde have had with their unfortunate mix of emo and rap, self-described as "crunkcore". The last time their name came up in Exclaim!, it was because they were the subject of much hate on the 2009 Warped Tour. Now, however, Fucked Up vocalist and Canadian punk ambassador Damian "Pink Eyes" Abraham has interviewed the band for our Garageland show, and uncovered some sincerity beneath the teased hair and pink skinny jeans.

Talking with Exclaim!'s Sam Sutherland after the interview, Abraham describes the punk elements of Brokencyde, pointing out that they break down their own gear, tour in a van and even share profits with their fellow band members. Abraham comes to the controversial conclusion that Brokencyde are "one of the most DIY bands in the world today."

During his sit-down with three of the band's members, they explain that they're not actually white kids from the suburbs, but actually a group of Hispanic kids who were "raised rough" and earned every dollar they made through hard work.

The admittedly bizarre video can be streamed below, and while it may not redeem the music of Brokencyde for you, it just might allow you to respect them as hard-working musicians.
