Last month, it was reported that Britney Spears was readying a new single with Elton John, and the collaboration has now been confirmed.

The two pop titans will come together on new song "Hold Me Closer," arriving August 26 via Universal. The single not only marks Britney's first single in six years, but also the first new material since being released from her conservatorship.

"Hold Me Closer" appears to take its title from the chorus of Sir Elton's beloved 1972 single "Tiny Dancer," lining up with initial reports from Page Six that the duet with Spears will be a new version of that song.

As a source told that publication, "This was Elton's idea, and Britney is a huge fan. They have recorded a remix of 'Tiny Dancer' as a full duet — and it is incredible. Britney was in the studio in Beverly Hills last week with Elton for the super-secret recording session overseen by uber-producer Andrew Watt."

Page Six's unnamed source added that "they've already played it for people at their record label, and everybody is freaking out. It is so good. They are saying this is going to be the song of the summer."

"Hold Me Closer" is now available to pre-save ahead of its arrival next week.

Spears most recently released Glory in 2016, while John released 30th album Wonderful Crazy Night that same year.
