Brian May Says Queen Haven't "Earned a Penny" from 'Bohemian Rhapsody'

The Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody was met with some seriously terrible reviews (and at least one good one), but that didn't stop the film from becoming the highest earning music biopic of all time. The film surpassed $1 billion USD at the global box office last month, but the band's Brian May says they haven't seen any of that cash.

Speaking with BBC Radio 2 [via Cinema Blend], May seemed surprised that he hasn't received a dumptruck full of money since the movie made its billion.

"It's incredible, it's like a billion dollar movie," he said. "I had to laugh actually the other day. Because there's this thing in the paper saying that we were getting rich off this movie. If they only knew. We were accounting the other day, and we still haven't earned a penny. How successful does a movie need to be before you make money?"

Without knowing the details of Queen's deal with 21st Century Fox, it's impossible to know why they haven't received a big ol' cheque. Either way, the film's success surely increased awareness towards the band and likely made an impact on their streaming numbers and album sales.
