To rub heterosexual culture in your face once more before the dawn of Pride Month, Boys Like Girls — who apparently released their first new single since 2012 last week — have announced the Speaking Our Language North American tour, with a couple Canadian dates. It features an incredibly Warped Tour-core lineup of supporting acts, including 3OH!3, the Summer Set, the Ready Set and more.
If you feel like you're in some sort of emo time-warp, you're not alone; this writer feels like she hasn't seen some of these names since they populated the catalogue on her iPod Nano (R.I.P.). But according to press materials, Boys Like Girls are still love drunk: they've signed with Fearless and are gearing up to release new music for the first time in over a decade. After reuniting to play the inaugural When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas last year, they were reinvigorated.
"We got out there, and it was euphoric for all of us," frontman Martin Johnson said in a statement. "Getting rowdy with the guys again, it felt like everything I was chasing with a solo project or by making music for other people had been fulfilled by Boys Like Girls. I realized how much fun, youthful, and beautiful it was to be on stage with my best friends. Seeing the state of the audience, it was deeply nostalgic, but there were also all of these kids who had never seen us. I looked at the boys and said, 'We need to make a record. I'm going to put everything on hold until we go and say what we need to say.'"
So now they're taking the nostalgia fest on the road this fall! The tour kicks off in Charlotte on September 17. The following month, they'll make their way to Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom on October 10 and Toronto's History on October 24 before wrapping the trek in Raleigh on November 1. Additional support acts at select dates include Toronto's own LØLØ, as well as Four Year Strong, SayWeCanFly, Every Avenue and Max Bemis.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday (June 2) following various presales, which are currently in progress.
