Ostensibly, Bombay Bicycle Club should fall into the UK's nouveau folk/Americana movement with outfits like Noah and the Whale, Mumford and Sons, Fanfarlo, Emmy the Great, and so on. And that's what made the London combo's frenetic live show so pleasantly surprising. Out of the gate, they piled on the down strokes and shimmering keys with a sped-up take on "Magnet." Frontman Jack Steadman and guitarist Jamie MacColl went the charged-atoms route, jittering about haphazardly. Fantastic tacticians, "Dust on the Ground," pulled off an out-of-leftfield Van Halen riff while "Cancel on Me" dropped a fake-out bridge. The highlight of the night, though, was a booming and euphoric "Always Like This."
