Frances most prolific black metal overlords have returned with yet another dreary and demented contortion of their genre expansion and like always, theyre ahead of the game. While still nightmarishly atmospheric, theres actually some semblance of songwriting on this record. Their approach remains very abstract and unconventional but the increased focus on creating tangibility adds an almost accessible element to this record, relatively speaking of course. This may have something to do with the fact that theyve shied away from the extreme experimentation of MoRT but are still edging on psychedelic hypnotism and mind-boggling digression. Considering the bulk of their catalogue to date, we can expect more where this came from.
