The Black Belles

Explaining Wesley Snipes's behaviour on the set of Blade Trinity, Ryan Reynolds noted that the method actor never broke character, saying something to the effect of "he is Blade." Conversely, Jack White protégés and Stephen Colbert (another great method man) collaborators, the Black Belles seem to be having a bit of an identity crisis. The Nashville outfit get a lot of press for their aesthetic -- goth-ish makeup, long dark hair and moody countenances -- but they're far from aloof (i.e., they're pretty amiable). Unfortunately, their sound is not particularly distinct either. Are they a sludge rock band with garage pretensions or a garage rock band with a country record collection? Well, it turns out they're still largely ambivalent, and the muddy mix at the Garrison didn't help matters. Cool hats, though.
