BIG|BRAVE Announce New Album 'A Chaos of Flowers,' Share Opening Track

It builds on 2023's 'nature morte'

Montreal trio BIG|BRAVE are back with their second album in as many years, led by the thunderously droning new single, "i felt a funeral."

A Chaos of Flowers arrives April 19 via Thrill Jockey. It follows — and builds upon — last year's nature morte, one of the Best Albums of 2023.

Described in press notes as "disquieting and serene," A Chaos of Flowers makes heavy-handed use of gain, amplitude and feedback to draw catharsis out of both beauty and alienation by combining a modern deconstruction of guitar music and traditional folk techniques.

The one-take video for Emily Dickinson homage "i felt a funeral" stands as a testament to the band's signature maximal minimalism. "The making of this video employed a similar process as we do when writing music," guitarist Mathieu Ball said in a release. "As we've learned to let the flow of ideas take its course, the act of creating works whether with fully formed concepts or an unfinished notion, starting the work itself acts as a sort of guide to where the final outcome may land. We realized that something more visually minimal than what we first imagined was the way to go."
