In the midst of a reunion of sorts, Toronto's garage-pop savants the Bicycles are playing some amazing shows right now and their return to Halifax was no different. The wilder, more irreverent descendants of Sloan and the Super Friendz, the band likely never thought twice about it, but it was significant to see them play Halifax, whose music scene was an early influence on their own tastes.
Hell's Kitchen is located in the basement of the Marquee and, while neither venue is used much these days, these are old stomping grounds for the Bicycles. After a pretty raucous, occasionally weird night of sets by the likes of Ketamines and Renny Wilson, the Bicycles rose to the occasion by pushing themselves and ripping through their explosive pop songs for an appreciative crowd who clearly missed them.
